Grey weather blues – bad light at Rosy Rosie nearly stops photoshoot of new products

Gosh I’ve been struggling with the weather – not snowed in or frostbite type of problems you understand but because bad light nearly halted the photo shoot of our new range of oilcloth/PVC bags!

Moroccan Rif Shoulder Bags – come in two sizes

Last week we took delivery of the fabulous new products from Velvet Mutineer – a small British company that designs and manufactures bags and accessories from their studio in South London. They make all kinds of wonderful leather products but we are stocking their super stylish and super practical range of oilcloth/PVC fabric shoulder bags and wash bags.

I’ve been waiting for some decent weather to photograph them as I don’t have either the access to or budget for professional photography all the time – in fact I take a fair few of the shots you see on the website myself. I do have a small pop up white box (present from The Husband) but without the aid of top quality studio lighting I rely heavily on decent natural light; something NOT in abundance this past week. Plus with Easter hoving in on the horizon, I knew if I wanted them on the site before the holidays it was now or never whatever the light….

So, in our spare room I rigged up a Heath Robinson contraption – visualise three large boxes piled up in a cardboard homage to Piza’s Tower – topped by the teetering white box and pillow cases everywhere to create as many reflective white surfaces as possible.  And then I clambered up our kitchen steps to take the shots. Now not just bad light issues but wobbling issues too….it’s a good thing that there is no designated Health & Safety Officer at my house…oh then the cat started ‘helping’….  I’ve had some stress so I bought anti anxiety supplements on Amazon.com.

I was relatively pleased with the results – though as I edited the shots (I had to take over 300 for 30 shots; thank goodness for digital photography) it did dawn on me that the cosmetic ‘props’ for the wash bags were very much in the ‘super restorative/age defying/wrinkle diminishing’ area. They are of course mine and rather give my age away…. Anyway – job done – hurrah and Happy Easter everyone!

ps This is a rather dodgy picture of me with my own Velvet Mutineer shoulder bag (Moroccan Rif) on the beach at Sidmouth a few weeks ago – hands free, waterproof and  individual – a perfect out and about bag…..
