International Women’s Day 8 March is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. At Rosy Rosie one of our greatest strengths are the other small businesses with whom I work because inspiringly they are mostly founded by and run by women – some are suppliers, some are event organisers, others are fellow stall/pop-up shop colleagues. All are hugely supportive, talented entrepreneurs who just get on with juggling family, life and running a successful business with a positive, ‘can do’ attitude. I find spending time with them exciting and they inspire me to emulate them. So today I salute, congratulate & celebrate you all. Thank you!
More generally, today also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity #PledgeForParity for whilst there is much to celebrate, progress towards gender parity has slowed in many places. The World Economic Forum predicted in 2014 that it would take until 2095 to achieve global gender parity. Then one year later in 2015, they estimated that a slowdown in the already glacial pace of progress meant the gender gap wouldn’t close entirely until 2133.
So please, today – both celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women but also take time to think how we can speed up gender parity. To find out so much more then see the International Women’s Day site.
